In July 2024, Boy Scout Bruno Russo of Troop 118 presented his Eagle Scout project proposal to the Denville Rotary. He planned to create a town-wide Fishing Line Recycling Program to address discarded fishing lines’ environmental impact. Bruno’s project aimed to educate the community on the dangers of non-biodegradable fishing lines, which pose significant risks to wildlife, waterfowl, waterways, and humans.

As part of his initiative, Bruno built and installed fishing line recycle bins at various locations across Denville, providing fishermen with a convenient way to responsibly dispose of used fishing line. The bins are now at Cooks Pond, Muriel Hepner Park, Gardner Field, McCarter Memorial Park, Hollstein Lake, Riverside Drive, and the Denville Recycling Center.
