Centenary University celebrated National First-Generation College Student Day on November 8 with a series of events honoring the achievements of first-generation students and supporting their success in college and beyond. This national day recognizes the unique challenges first-gen students face as well as their valuable contributions to college campuses, workplaces, and communities.
The university’s celebration featured a breakfast for first-gen students, a formal signing of the Pledge to Graduate, and the distribution of First-Gen: A Memoir by Alejandra Campoverdi. Additionally, a financial literacy workshop was offered to equip students with essential skills for managing personal finances. The day concluded with the induction of 15 students and one Centenary staff member into Alpha Alpha Alpha, or Tri Alpha, an honor society that promotes academic excellence and provides opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and community service for first-generation students. Centenary introduced its Tri Alpha chapter last year.
