The NJ Department of Transportation announced that two lanes on I-80 westbound in Wharton are expected to reopen late Friday night, May 30, weather permitting. All lanes in both directions are scheduled to reopen by June 25.
Paving will be completed by Thursday night or early Friday morning. After the surface cools, lane striping will begin. Traffic will be shifted to the shoulder and right lane during this phase, and the detour at Exit 34B will be removed once the lanes reopen.
The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph westbound and 40 mph eastbound through the work zone. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution. Median work continues and is on track to finish by June 25. Updates are available at 511nj.org and NJDOT’s social media channels.
