The Denville Township Police Department has announced the launch of its 2025 Citizens Police Academy, a program designed to give residents and local workers a deeper understanding of law enforcement operations. The ten-week course begins on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, and will be held weekly on Wednesday nights from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM in the Community Room of the Denville Township Municipal Building.

The program will cover various topics, including criminal and constitutional law concerning arrests, searches, and seizures; patrol procedures; drug trends; and use-of-force training, including simulated scenarios in a firearms training environment. Designed to be interactive and hands-on, the academy aims to provide participants with practical insights into police work while fostering stronger ties between law enforcement and the community. Graduates will gain a better appreciation of the challenges police officers face and are encouraged to act as ambassadors for the law enforcement community.

Applications are open to Denville residents and individuals who work or own businesses in the township, with preference given to residents. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have no criminal record. Space is limited to 15 participants, making this a competitive and sought-after opportunity.

The deadline to apply is Friday, January 31, 2025. Interested individuals can pick up an application packet at Denville Police Headquarters or download it from the department’s website at denvillepolice.gov. For more information, applicants can contact P/O Temporale of the Community Services Bureau by phone at (973) 627-4900 ext. 383 or via email at atemporale@denvillepolice.org.

The Citizens Police Academy offers a unique opportunity to interact with local law enforcement, gain hands-on experience, and deepen one’s connection to the community. Those interested are encouraged to apply soon, as spots are expected to fill quickly.
