Preliminary results from The New York Times show that the Democratic Special Primary for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District remains too close to call as of late Tuesday night.

With approximately 91 percent of votes reported, no candidate has secured a definitive majority. According to the New York Times tally, Anallia Mejia leads the field with 17,647 votes, or 28.75 percent. Close behind is Tom Malinowski with 17,161 votes, or 27.96 percent. Tahesha Way has 10,696 votes, representing 17.43 percent, and Brendan Gill has received 8,731 votes, or 14.22 percent. In total, 61,382 votes have been reported so far.

Because the margin between the top candidates is narrow and outstanding ballots remain, election officials have not declared a winner.

The Democratic nominee will advance to the general election to fill the vacant seat for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. Results are expected to be updated as additional ballots are counted and certified.
