The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Denville and all of Morris County that remains in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
Tornado Watch 507 covers nearly the entire state, including Morris, Sussex, Passaic, Essex, Union, Warren, Hunterdon, and Somerset counties, along with much of central and southern New Jersey.
A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to form. It is not the same as a tornado warning, which means a tornado has been spotted or indicated on radar and residents should take shelter immediately. During a watch, the safest move is to stay alert and be ready to act quickly.
Morris County is also under a Flash Flood Warning and a Flood Watch. The National Weather Service warns that rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour are possible, which raises the risk of flash flooding in low-lying areas and spots with poor drainage.
We encourage Denville residents to keep a reliable way to receive alerts, whether through a weather app, a NOAA weather radio, or local emergency notifications. Identify a safe interior room on the lowest floor of your home, away from windows, in case a warning is issued.
Drivers should never attempt to cross a flooded roadway. It takes only a small amount of moving water to sweep a vehicle away, and many flood deaths happen in cars.
