The Denville Rotary Clubs will host their next community blood drive on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Denville Municipal Building, 1 St. Mary’s Place.

The drive lands during one of the tightest stretches for the regional blood supply in years. New York Blood Center and New Jersey Blood Services declared a second blood emergency of the summer in July after the regional supply fell to its lowest level since the COVID-19 pandemic. Both organizations are asking eligible donors, especially those with type O blood, to book appointments as soon as possible.

There is an added incentive this month. Everyone who donates at a New York Blood Center or New Jersey Blood Services drive between Aug. 1 and Aug. 31 receives a voucher for a free beverage at one of more than 60 participating breweries, pubs and coffee shops through the fifth annual Blood for a Brew campaign.

“August is traditionally one of the most challenging times of year for the blood supply, and this summer has been especially difficult as extreme weather has disrupted blood donations across our region,” said Jeannie Mascolino, vice president of operations at New York Blood Center and New Jersey Blood Services.

Appointments are encouraged and walk in donors are accepted when space allows. Residents can find the Denville drive and reserve a time through the New York Blood Center donor portal by searching ZIP code 07834, or by calling 1 800 933 2566.

The Denville drive runs monthly, so residents who cannot make Wednesday have four more chances this year. The donor portal lists drives on Wednesday, Sept. 16, Wednesday, Oct. 21, Wednesday, Nov. 18 and Wednesday, Dec. 16, each from noon to 6 p.m.

Blood donors can give every 56 days. Platelet donors can give up to twice per month.
