Denville has scheduled its annual tax lien sale, and property owners carrying unpaid 2025 bills have until October 8 to settle up.
Tax Collector Susan Pfeil issued the public notice on August 19. The township will sell liens on parcels where taxes, assessments, or other municipal charges from 2025 and earlier remain unpaid. The sale runs entirely online at denville.newjerseytaxsale.com. That site is not open to bidders yet. It goes live September 8, 2026, and the auction closes October 8, 2026. The property list can be viewed there free of charge.
Liens go to the bidder willing to accept the lowest rate of interest, and state law caps that rate at 18 percent per year. Winning bidders must pay by cash, money order, certified check, or wire transfer before the sale concludes.
Owners who want off the list need to move before the auction closes. Under state law, delinquent interest has to be paid in full for a property to be pulled from the sale, and the total owed can shift between now and October. The township is asking owners to call the Tax Collector’s office at (973) 625-8300, extension 273, for an exact payoff figure before sending any money.
Denville holds a tax sale every fall covering unpaid prior-year balances for taxes, water, sewer, and special assessments. Anything still outstanding when the sale runs can become a lien against the property.
The Tax Collector’s office is at 1 St. Mary’s Place and is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
