The biggest sporting event of the summer lands in New Jersey this weekend, and Denville soccer fans should plan their trip now. The 2026 FIFA World Cup Final kicks off Sunday, July 19, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, temporarily renamed New York New Jersey Stadium for the tournament. Match time is 3:00 p.m., with Argentina set to face Spain for the title. The tournament first brought World Cup matches to the stadium back in June, and now the world turns to New Jersey for the finale.
Anyone driving should expect heavy traffic, tight security, and road impacts around the Meadowlands all day, made worse by the crowds and visiting dignitaries. Officials are urging fans to leave the car home and take the train.
Denville sits on NJ Transit’s Morristown Line and Montclair-Boonton Line, both of which connect to Secaucus Junction. From Secaucus, fans transfer to the Meadowlands Rail Line for a direct ride to the stadium. NJ Transit says its first World Cup Final train runs at 11:00 a.m., with service starting about four hours before kickoff and trains every 10 to 20 minutes. Round-trip tickets to “Meadowlands,” bought through the NJ Transit app or a station machine, cover the Secaucus transfer both ways.
After the final whistle, trains run on a load and go basis for up to three hours, and free supplemental buses carry ticketed riders back to Secaucus. Full schedules are posted on NJ Transit’s World Cup travel page.
Fans who would rather stay local can catch the match at Denville and Morris County bars and restaurants showing the game. Either way, it is a historic day with the world’s biggest match in our backyard.
