Around 10 p.m. on December 22, 2024, Denville police responded to a crash near 95 E Main Street after reports of a loud bang. Officers found a vehicle that had veered off the road and struck a building, with airbags deployed.
The driver claimed to have lost control due to black ice but showed signs of impairment during field sobriety tests. At the station, a breath test revealed a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .21%, nearly three times the legal limit. A search of the vehicle uncovered multiple bottles of alcohol, including an empty one.
The driver later admitted to drinking at Hoover’s Tavern in Morris Plains before the crash. They were released into a friend’s care and face DUI-related charges. Police are continuing their investigation.
