On January 17, 2025, at approximately 11:23 p.m., Denville police responded to a two-car crash on Route 53. During their investigation, officers determined that one of the drivers involved was under the influence of alcohol.
The driver failed field sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The other driver was transported to Morristown Medical Center to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash.
The arrested driver was taken to police headquarters, where they were charged with driving under the influence, assault by automobile, careless driving, reckless driving, and failure to maintain a lane. They were later released on their recognizance and are scheduled for court appearances in Denville Township Municipal Court and Morris County Superior Court.
Several traffic summonses were also issued.
