NJ Transit fares go up 3 percent systemwide on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, and Denville commuters who ride from the Denville train station will feel it on their next trip. The increase covers trains, buses, and light rail across the state.
The change is the second of NJ Transit’s automatic 3 percent annual fare increases, which the agency’s Board of Directors approved alongside a one-time 15 percent hike that took effect in 2024. Unlike that larger increase, the yearly 3 percent adjustments do not require public hearings or a board vote.
For Denville riders, that means slightly higher prices on the Morristown Line and the Montclair-Boonton Line, both of which serve the Denville station and connect to Hoboken and New York Penn Station. Bus and light rail customers see the same 3 percent bump.
NJ Transit says the predictable annual increase helps fund service and lets the agency respond to changing needs, such as absorbing bus routes that private carriers have dropped on short notice.
Riders can see exactly what their new fare will be with the fare tool on NJ Transit’s fares page or the NJ Transit mobile app. Monthly pass holders renewing for July should plan for the adjusted amount before they buy.
The increase does not affect PATH, SEPTA, or PATCO, though PATH raised its standard single-ride fare by 25 cents earlier this year.
