Denville Police officers ran active shooter response training inside Morris Knolls High School in recent days, getting into the building ahead of the students as the new school year approaches.
The Denville Township Police Department said the exercise focused on teamwork, communication and coordinated response in a school setting. Officers also worked the department’s room clearing drone program into the drill, technology Denville Police use to build situational awareness and gather information safely in difficult environments.
Morris Knolls, at 50 Knoll Drive in Denville, opened its building for the training. The school is part of the Morris Hills Regional District and draws students from Denville along with much of Rockaway Township and Rockaway Borough.
“We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Morris Knolls High School for generously allowing us to use their school for this important training,” the department said.
Denville Police already staff the building year round. The department assigns two full time School Resource Officers to the regional high schools inside the township, one at Morris Knolls and one at the Morris County School of Technology.
“Training like this allows our officers to sharpen their skills, work together, and stay prepared to serve our schools and community,” the department said.
