Dr. Sandra Cullis will officially step into the role of Superintendent of Schools for the Denville Township School District on July 1, 2026. The Denville Board of Education unanimously approved her appointment at its January 5 meeting, selecting her to succeed Dr. Steven Forte, who announced his retirement last spring.

Cullis is not a newcomer to the district. She has served as Denville’s Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, working closely with all three schools: Lakeview Elementary, Riverview Elementary, and Valleyview Middle School. Board members praised her steady leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and her long track record of thoughtful decision-making within the district.

Her contract runs from July 2026 through June 2029.

At the January meeting, Cullis expressed gratitude for the board’s confidence and emphasized her commitment to the Denville community. Reelected board members Don Casse and Andrea Zeydelis were also sworn in at the same meeting, and Dr. Clifford Moore was elected board president.

During her time overseeing curriculum and instruction, all three Denville schools earned Future Ready Schools NJ Bronze Certification in 2019, recognizing the district’s progress in digital learning readiness. The district consistently ranks among the stronger performing K-8 systems in Morris County.

With the transition less than three months away, Denville families can expect continuity from a leader who already knows the district from the inside.
