The Denville Historical Society is bringing back one of its most popular history programs this month, with the Colonial Taverns and Forges Walking Tour set for Saturday, July 18, 2026.

The guided tour, which the Society says is back by popular demand, walks visitors through the sites that shaped Denville in its earliest days, when iron forges and roadside taverns anchored the community along the old stage routes. Known for generations as the Hub of Morris County, Denville grew up around its iron works and the good farmland that drew its first settlers, and the tour brings that Colonial-era chapter to life on foot.

Space is limited and registration is required. Residents who want to take part, or who have questions about the meeting point and start time, can sign up by emailing the Denville Historical Society and Museum ahead of the event.

The Society is based at the Denville Museum and Research Center at 113 Diamond Spring Road and can be reached at 973-625-1165. Admission to the museum is free.

The walking tour is one of several ways Denville is marking its history this summer, following the Township’s recent commemoration of the 1780 Revolutionary War warning beacon. It also adds to a busy local calendar that includes the Music in the Park concert series at Gardner Field.
