Morris County will begin preparatory work Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, on the milling and resurfacing of Sussex Turnpike in Randolph Township, a county road that carries Denville drivers into the neighboring town.
The project covers Sussex Turnpike, also known as County Route 617, from Dover Chester Road to West Hanover Avenue. Preparation work will continue throughout August. The county said milling and paving operations are scheduled to begin after schools reopen in early September.
Standard work hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some work taking place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. All work is expected to be finished by Sept. 30, 2026, weather permitting.
Traffic will be maintained through the work zone, but the county is telling motorists to expect temporary impacts and possible delays. Drivers who use Sussex Turnpike are being asked to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
The project is funded through the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Local Aid Program and managed by Morris County. Riverview Paving Inc. was contracted to complete the work.

The paving job adds to a busy stretch of county infrastructure work near Denville. The Morris Avenue bridge in Denville was set to close for repairs on Aug. 6, and the Three Rivers Drive bridge closed on Aug. 3.
