Denville property owners have until Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026 to pay their third quarter tax bill without interest.
The township mailed third quarter 2026 property tax bills on July 30 and the payment is due Saturday, Aug. 1. Because the 2026 tax rate arrived late, Denville extended the grace period through Aug. 26, according to a notice posted on the township website. Payments received on or before that date will not be charged interest.
Anything paid after Aug. 26 loses the cushion entirely. The township said interest on late payments will be calculated retroactively from the original Aug. 1 due date, not from the end of the grace period.
The extension follows the delay we reported in late July, when Denville said it could not send bills until it received the certified tax rate from Morris County.
The normal window is far tighter. Denville taxes are payable quarterly on the first day of February, May, August and November, and payments not received by the 11th day are subject to interest. The township does not accept postmarks, so a payment counts when it arrives, not when it is sent.
Delinquent balances carry interest at 8 percent per year on the first $1,500 and 18 percent per year on any amount above that. A 6 percent penalty applies to any delinquency over $10,000 left unpaid at the end of the fiscal year.
Residents can pay through the township’s online tax and utility portal, in person at 1 St. Mary’s Place, or by using the after-hours drop box at the building entrance. Tax Collector Susan Pfeil can be reached at (973) 625-8300, extension 273.
