A newly posted orange sign on Morris Avenue in Denville warns drivers that the bridge there is scheduled to close on or about August 6, 2026 for repairs.
The sign stands on the shoulder just before the span, on the stretch of Morris Avenue between Morris Catholic High School at 200 Morris Ave and the Hampton Inn at 350 Morris Ave. It reads “This bridge to be closed for repair” and tells drivers to plan an alternate route. No reopening date is listed.
The structure is Morris County Bridge No. 1400-914, a beam and girder span built in 1958 that carries Morris Avenue over Beaver Brook. The county advertised the rehabilitation work this spring under bid B26-79, with sealed bids opened on May 14, 2026 at the Purchasing Division in Morristown.
The bridge has been on the county’s list for years. Morris County earmarked roughly $350,000 for the job in its 2023 capital spending plan, and federal bridge inspection records have listed the substructure in fair condition since 2015.
The Morris County Department of Engineering and Transportation has not released a detour map or a construction timeline, and the “on or about” wording on the sign leaves room for the start date to move. Drivers who use Morris Avenue to reach Route 46, Route 53, or the Morris Catholic and hotel corridor should plan for a longer trip once the closure begins.
