Denville police charged an East Orange man with drug and motor vehicle offenses after a Sunday night traffic stop on Route 46, according to the Denville Township Police Department.
Officers stopped a black Nissan traveling east on Route 46 at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, after seeing an inoperable brake light. Police identified the driver as Jerod Denmark, 48, of East Orange.
During the stop, officers determined Denmark was driving with a suspended license and had an active $750 warrant out of East Orange Municipal Court, police said. He was placed under arrest, and a search turned up suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, according to police.
Denmark was taken to Denville police headquarters and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while suspended, maintenance of lamps and operating a motor vehicle while in possession of a narcotic.
Denmark was released pending a future appearance in Morris County Superior Court. The department did not name the arresting officer.
Route 46 runs east to west across Denville and is one of several state highways that cross the township. Charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
