Denville police arrested four drivers during traffic stops between July 24 and July 27, three of them on drunken driving charges, according to a Denville Police Department release.
The first stop came at about 11:22 p.m. on July 24, when officers pulled over a vehicle for several motor vehicle violations. Police identified the driver as Krystall Maldonado and said a roadside investigation that included standardized field sobriety testing indicated impairment. Maldonado was arrested and issued summonses for driving under the influence, careless driving, reckless driving, failure to maintain a lane, having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, and an obstructed windshield.
Early on July 25, at roughly 4:17 a.m., officers stopped another vehicle for multiple violations and identified the driver as Christian Viera. Police said sobriety testing showed signs of impairment. Viera was arrested and issued summonses for driving under the influence, careless driving, reckless driving, improper use of high beams, and failure to provide an insurance card.
On July 27 at about 10:05 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle on Stonebridge Court for equipment violations and identified the driver as Samuel Encarnacion. Police said Encarnacion had two active contempt warrants, one issued by Pequannock Township Municipal Court for $3,500 and one issued by Tinton Falls Municipal Court for $1,000. He was issued summonses for driving without a license, driving while suspended, an obstructed windshield, and a seatbelt violation.
Later that afternoon, at about 3:15 p.m., police received several complaints about an erratic driver heading west on Route 10. Officers located the vehicle, stopped it and identified the driver as Zachary Monahan, who was arrested on a drunken driving charge and issued summonses for driving under the influence, reckless driving and careless driving.
All four drivers were released pending court appearances. The local summonses are returnable in Denville Municipal Court. Encarnacion is also due in Pequannock Township and Tinton Falls municipal courts.
Charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
