Denville’s water utility will begin flushing fire hydrants across town on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, a job the township expects to take about three to four weeks.
Crews will work weekdays only, Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., according to a notice the township posted on Oct. 9.
While crews are working in a neighborhood, residents may see some minor discoloration in their tap water. The township says the water remains safe to drink and there is no need to boil it.
The township is also offering a laundry tip for the flushing period: wash dark clothes first. That keeps lighter loads out of the wash during the hours when tap water is most likely to be discolored.
Water systems are flushed to clear out sediment that settles inside the mains over time and to confirm hydrants are working properly for firefighters.
Residents with questions about the schedule can call the township at 973-625-8334, the Department of Public Works line. Office hours and other township phone numbers are listed in our guide to the Denville Municipal Building.
