The Denville Township Police Department is offering residents free, in-person home security assessments through a new program aimed at making local properties harder targets for burglars.
Officers certified in risk assessment meet homeowners at their residence, evaluate the security measures already in place, identify potential weak points and recommend improvements. After the visit, the resident receives a report with personalized recommendations for strengthening home security.
The department describes the Residential Security Assessment Program as “a new initiative to provide property owners with professional, targeted recommendations on safeguarding against burglaries.”
To request an appointment, residents email Sgt. Zach Lancaster at zlancaster@denvillepolice.gov with their name, address, phone number and a preferred day and time. A member of the department’s Community Services Bureau responds with a suggested date and time, and the assigned officer meets the resident at the home.
The Community Services Bureau also runs the Junior Police Academy, the township’s Special Needs Registry and child passenger safety programs. Denville Police headquarters is at 1 St. Marys Place, and the main number is 973-627-4900.
