Denville Township’s online tax lien sale closes Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, leaving property owners with unpaid 2025 taxes and municipal charges one last window to settle up before a lien on their property is sold to a bidder.
The sale is being conducted by Tax Collector Susan Pfeil under New Jersey’s tax sale law. According to the township’s tax sale notice, it covers taxes, assessments and other municipal charges left unpaid for 2025 and prior years. The auction opened Sept. 8.
Bidders compete by offering the lowest interest rate the owner would pay to redeem the lien, with a cap of 18% per year. Winning bidders must pay by cash, money order, certified check or wire transfer before the sale concludes. The list of properties can be viewed for free on the township’s official tax lien auction site.
For owners who want a property pulled from the sale, the township says delinquent interest must be paid along with the balance, and it asks owners to call the tax office before sending payment to confirm any additional charges.
The Denville Tax Collector’s office is in the Municipal Building at 1 St. Mary’s Place and is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The office can be reached at (973) 625-8300, ext. 273.
Liens are sold subject to redemption, so an owner can still clear one after the sale, but interest at the winning bid rate is added on top of what is owed. Under the township’s rules, unpaid prior-year balances for taxes, water, sewer or special assessments go to tax sale each fall.
Separately, fourth-quarter 2026 property taxes are due Nov. 1. Our Denville property tax guide covers the grace period and ways to pay.
Denville is also working through other government deadlines this fall, including flood map appeals open through Dec. 24, 2026.
