Spain won the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday, beating Argentina 1-0 in extra time at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, about 27 miles from Morristown and roughly a 40 minute drive for Morris County fans.
Ferran Torres, a 62nd minute substitute, scored the only goal in the 106th minute after Nico Williams headed a cross into his path.
Argentina finished the match a player down. Midfielder Enzo Fernández drew a second yellow card in the 90th minute and was sent off. Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez made 11 saves, a record for a World Cup final.
The title is Spain’s second. Their first came in 2010 in South Africa, when they beat the Netherlands 1-0, also in extra time.
