A 65-year-old Hackettstown resident is facing robbery charges after allegedly walking into a Denville bank on Monday afternoon and leaving with roughly $6,000 in cash.

Jason H. Perlett was charged with one count of robbery following the March 23 incident at the Bank of America location on East Main Street, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

The call came in around 4 p.m. when bank employees reported that a man had entered the branch, passed a note to a teller demanding money, and then walked out with the cash. Authorities said no weapon was shown during the incident.

Perlett allegedly left the bank in a vehicle, but his time on the road was short. State troopers spotted the car traveling along Route 10 in Roxbury, and working together with Roxbury police, officers pulled the vehicle over around 5 p.m.

Perlett was taken into custody at the scene. Investigators said they recovered what they believe to be stolen cash along with additional evidence from inside the vehicle.

The case remains under investigation by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
