The Denville Township Police Department released its monthly activity recap for May, logging 2,899 calls for service as part of what the department calls a commitment to public transparency.

“Transparency is an essential tool in building trust and confidence between law enforcement and the community we serve,” the 35-member department said in the posting. “While there are some legal limitations on what we can release, we are committed to sharing what we can.”

The May report shows officers handled 956 motor vehicle stops and responded to 75 documented motor vehicle crashes. They made 10 adult arrests and three arrests for driving while intoxicated.

Beyond enforcement, the numbers point to a department stretched across a wide range of calls. Officers logged 129 fire and medical assists, responded to nine domestic incidents, and answered seven calls involving mental health crises or missing persons. They fielded 36 alarm and 911 calls and deployed drones three times.

Community work made up a large share of the month. The department recorded 216 community policing events and completed 953 residential and commercial property checks. Officers also handled 40 animal control calls, assisted outside agencies 37 times, and logged 425 additional responses listed under other police services.

Denville, a 12.6 square mile township of roughly 16,700 residents, sits at the crossroads of several state highways and rail lines, earning it the nickname the Hub of Morris County. That central position helps explain the steady volume of traffic stops and crash responses.
