A Newark man is facing multiple charges after allegedly attempting a gift card scam at the CVS on East Main Street in Denville.

On June 13, Denville Police responded to a report of an unknown individual trying to replace legitimate gift cards with fraudulent ones. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Rinalds Ivzans, fled the store before officers arrived but was quickly located nearby and taken into custody without incident.

A search of the area uncovered several additional fraudulent gift cards. Ivzans was arrested and charged with possession of forgery devices, tampering with evidence, criminal attempt, and theft by deception. He was processed at Denville Police Headquarters and later released, pending a mandatory court appearance.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
