Morris Knolls High School’s girls lacrosse season ended one win shy of a sectional championship after Summit held off the Golden Eagles, 9-6, in the NJSIAA North Jersey Group 3 semifinal Thursday afternoon.
The Denville based program leaned on Lucia Nash, who turned in another standout performance. Nash finished with three goals and an assist for a game-high four points. She added three ground balls and two draw controls and converted a free-position opportunity.
Senior goalkeeper Kylie Heimbach made 18 saves, keeping Morris Knolls within striking distance despite constant pressure from Summit’s balanced attack. The Golden Eagles fought to the final whistle but could not close the gap against one of the section’s top programs.
Morris Knolls had advanced to the semifinal on the strength of a 10-goal performance from Nash in the previous round, a result that powered the Denville school into sectional contention. The team also competed in the Morris County Tournament earlier in the spring, where Chatham handed Morris Knolls a 14-10 loss in that semifinal.
The Morris Knolls boys lacrosse program saw its season end against Summit as well, falling 16-3 in the Group 3 quarterfinals to finish 11-10 on the year.
Both programs return a core of underclass talent and will look to build on the postseason experience next spring. Local fans can follow Morris Knolls athletics through the Golden Eagles official site at mkhseaglesathletics.com and TAPinto Denville for season recaps and offseason coverage.
