Denville is pushing every garbage and recycling pickup back one day the week of Labor Day, with the holiday falling on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026.
The township posted the adjusted schedule on Aug. 26. Monday’s Sept. 7 route moves to Tuesday, Sept. 8. Tuesday’s Sept. 8 route moves to Wednesday, Sept. 9. Wednesday moves to Thursday, Sept. 10, Thursday moves to Friday, Sept. 11, and Friday’s Sept. 11 route moves to Saturday, Sept. 12.
Recycling shifts as well. The collection normally set for Wednesday, Sept. 9 will instead run Thursday, Sept. 10.
Denville runs twice-weekly garbage collection split by U.S. Highway 46. Homes north of Route 46 are picked up Tuesday and Friday. Homes south of Route 46 are picked up Monday and Thursday. Trucks start at 6 a.m., so residents on a delayed route should have containers out the night before or early that morning.
Labor Day is one of six holidays with no collection in Denville, along with New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The delay also lands on the first day of school. Denville Township School District has set Tuesday, Sept. 8 as the first day for students, the same morning the delayed Monday route runs.
