Michael Embrich, the nominee to serve as New Jersey’s first Veteran Advocate, dropped in on a Morris County Veterans Resource Connection event in Morris Township, where county staff and roughly a dozen government and nonprofit agencies set up under one roof to help local veterans, the county announced on Oct. 21, 2026.
According to the county’s announcement, the all-day event was held at the Morris County Veteran Services Office, located off 540 West Hanover Avenue. The same county building houses a federal VA medical clinic and a federal Veteran Center Community Access Point, which offers readjustment counseling and mental health referrals.
Gov. Mikie Sherrill nominated Embrich on Aug. 5, 2026, to lead the state’s new Office of Veteran Advocate, which was created in 2025. His confirmation is still pending before the state Senate. Embrich is a U.S. Navy veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom who served aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt and later worked as a policy advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
The visit was unplanned, the county said, and Embrich praised the setup of medical, mental health, nonprofit, county, state and federal services in a single spot. “It’s very rare that veterans have the opportunity to go to one location,” he said.
Commissioner Deputy Director John Krickus, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, welcomed Embrich along with Human Services Director Kasey Errico, Christine Hellyer, director of the county’s Division of Aging, Disabilities, Veterans and Community Programming, and the county’s veteran services officers. Krickus also pointed veterans to the Veteran Resource Center at County College of Morris.
The county said the Resource Connection is one of several special events its Veteran Services Office holds during the year. Denville veterans and their families can reach the office at (973) 285-6858 or MCVETS@co.morris.nj.us.
Veterans Day falls on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026, which is also the last day before interest applies to Denville’s Nov. 1 tax installment.
