A 35-year-old New York City man is facing a drunk driving charge and eight other motor vehicle offenses after a stop on Route 10 in Denville on Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, according to the Denville Police Department.
Police said officers were watching traffic on Route 10 East at about 3:15 p.m. when a problem with one vehicle’s registration came to their attention. Officers then determined the car was carrying fictitious license plates.
Police identified the driver as Ahmed Sekou Sow of New York City. While dealing with him in a parking lot along Route 10 East, officers saw signs that he may have been impaired and had him perform field sobriety tests, according to police. He was arrested and taken to Denville Police Headquarters for processing.
In addition to driving while intoxicated, Sow was charged with reckless driving, careless driving, driving while suspended, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, failure to possess an insurance card, operating a vehicle without liability insurance and fictitious plates.
Police said he was released pending a future date in Denville Municipal Court.
The arrest comes days after Denville police announced two other DWI arrests from separate late September stops.
Residents with information on non-emergency incidents can now file reports through the department’s online reporting portal. For anything urgent, call 911.
Charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
