Denville police arrested two drivers on impaired driving charges in separate overnight stops last week, according to press releases the department issued Tuesday, Sept. 29.
The first arrest came Wednesday, Sept. 23, at about 11:39 p.m., when officers saw a vehicle traveling at a high speed on Route 53 North toward Route 46 West. Police said they pulled the car over on Main Street in Rockaway Borough.
Officers reported signs of possible impairment and arrested the driver, Nicholas J. Csukardi, 45, of Norwich, New York, after field sobriety testing. Following processing at Denville police headquarters, he was issued summonses for operating under the influence, refusal to submit to a chemical test, reckless driving, careless driving, speeding and a related breath sample violation.
Two days later, on Friday, Sept. 25, at about 3:25 a.m., officers watched a vehicle make an improper turn from Route 46 onto Franklin Road and stopped it near Landing Trail, police said. The driver, Michael J. Keevins, 38, of West Orange, showed signs of impairment and was arrested after field sobriety testing.
Keevins received summonses for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving, driving with an expired license, failure to provide an insurance card, an obstructed windshield, an improper turn, and failing to obey traffic signals and a traffic control device.
Both men were released pending future appearances in Denville Municipal Court, according to police.
In a separate release, police said officers spotted a man walking on the Route 46 center median at about 4:16 p.m. on Sept. 23. Joshua Aguirre, 23, of Parsippany, was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Raritan Municipal Court, issued a summons for walking on the median of a divided highway and turned over to Raritan Township police.
