The Denville Township Police Department has launched a free home security assessment program that puts a certified officer at a resident’s door to look for the weak points a burglar would use.
The Residential Security Assessment Program pairs property owners with officers who have been certified in risk assessment. The assigned officer meets the resident at the home, evaluates the security measures already in place, identifies potential areas of weakness and recommends improvements. After the appointment, the property owner receives a report with personalized recommendations for tightening things up.
The department describes the program as a new initiative meant to give property owners professional, targeted guidance on safeguarding against burglaries. There is no cost, and the survey happens in person at the property rather than over the phone.
Residents who want an appointment start by emailing Sgt. Zach Lancaster at zlancaster@denvillepolice.gov with a name, address, phone number and a preferred day and time. A member of the department’s Community Services Bureau responds with a suggested date and time, and the assigned officer handles the walkthrough from there.
The Community Services Bureau is the same unit behind much of the department’s public-facing work in town, including the Junior Police Academy that graduated its 2026 class in July and the annual National Night Out gathering held this week at the Pocono Road fields.
