Morris County will hold its 25th anniversary 9/11 remembrance ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at the Morris County 9/11 Memorial, 460 W. Hanover Ave. in Parsippany-Troy Hills.
The Morris County Board of County Commissioners is inviting the public. The ceremony begins after sundown this year, more than an hour later than in past years, to accommodate residents observing Rosh Hashanah.
The evening will feature a candlelight vigil, musical tributes, an invocation, and a procession of firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, veterans and other dignitaries. The names of the 64 Morris County residents who died in the attacks will be read aloud. Nearly 3,000 people were killed nationwide on Sept. 11, 2001.
Keynote remarks will come from Dennis Letts, a retired United States Secret Service executive and Tunnel to Towers Foundation ambassador. Letts was a Secret Service special agent leaving the North Tower of the World Trade Center when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the building above him. He returned to help evacuate thousands of occupants and later assisted with the emergency evacuation of civilians from Lower Manhattan. He received the United States Secret Service Medal of Valor for his actions that day.
Seating at the memorial is limited, and the county is asking attendees to bring lawn chairs. Parking is available at the Morris County Department of Human Services offices at 340 West Hanover Ave. in Morris Township, with shuttle service running to and from the memorial.
Police, fire and rescue departments that want to take part may send one apparatus per agency and should assemble by 6 p.m. at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy, 500 West Hanover Ave.
Residents who cannot make it in person can watch the ceremony livestreamed on Facebook.
