The Denville Public Library is launching a new romantasy book group and hosting a virtual talk with two bestselling science authors in November, part of a monthly calendar that also includes two Thanksgiving cooking demos. The library will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day.
The new Romantasy Book Group, for readers who like books that blend fantasy and romance, meets for the first time Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. in person. The library says the first session will be an introductory meeting. It is free, with RSVP through the library calendar.
Earlier that day, at 2 p.m., the library hosts a virtual author talk with Kelly and Zach Weinersmith, the New York Times bestselling duo behind “A City on Mars,” a look at the science, and the very real complications, of settling space. Zach is an award-winning cartoonist and Kelly is a scientist.
Home cooks getting ready for Thanksgiving can tune in to the virtual Library Chef series, which streams Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. On Nov. 4, “Stuffing Three Ways” covers traditional herb, savory sausage and sweet apple cranberry stuffing. On Nov. 11, “Thanksgiving Classics” shows how to make honey mashed sweet potatoes. Denville residents can create a Library Chef account using the library’s zip code, and each session is recorded for later viewing.
In-person regulars this month include Canasta on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 1:30 p.m.; Computers 101 that evening at 7 p.m. (RSVP required); Mah Jongg on Fridays, Nov. 6 and 13, at 10 a.m.; the Knitting and Crochet Group on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 1:30 p.m.; a French Conversation Group on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 2:15 p.m.; and a Dungeons and Dragons role playing night on Monday, Nov. 16, at 6:30 p.m.
The library is at 121 Diamond Spring Road. Full listings and registration links are on the library’s events calendar. For hours, library cards and more, see our Denville Public Library guide.
