Seafood in Denville

Denville Seafood and Codmother’s Cafe

Anthony Aguanno started the business on November 29, 1951, with $200, first on Main Street and then, in 1952, at the current spot on Broadway. After a 1979 fire the family rebuilt with a restaurant added, and the dining room tripled in size for the 50th anniversary in 2001. The cafe is named for Ann Aguanno, the co-founder the family calls the Codmother. Today it is two businesses under one roof: a retail fish counter where you buy fillets, shellfish and cooked shrimp to take home, and a dining room plus covered patio looking out on downtown.

The family says fish still comes from the Fulton Fish Market. On the dinner menu, broiled or fried plates include flounder ($28), black sea bass ($36), Chilean sea bass ($38) and Tony’s special of flounder, shrimp and sea scallops ($36), each with coleslaw, a vegetable and a side. Fish and chips runs $30, and Shrimp Adam (shrimp with basil, tomatoes and garlic) is $26. Lunch is lighter: sandwiches such as fried flounder ($11) or lobster salad ($18) are served until 3 p.m. Start with the New England clam chowder ($6 a cup, $10 a bowl) or the lobster claw cocktail ($17). Menu notes say some items depend on the day’s catch.

Casa Bella

Casa Bella on Route 46 is Denville’s dressed up Italian room, and its menu leans hard on the water. Look for zuppa di pesce, assorted seafood in tomato, garlic and white wine over linguini ($43.95), calamari fra diavolo ($32.95), lobster and shrimp agnolotti in pink vodka sauce ($30.95), and a mixed grilled seafood plate ($34.95). Little neck clams and mussels are $15.95 each as starters, and there is a cold seafood salad of shrimp, scallops, calamari and scungilli ($21.95).

As of October 2026 the restaurant advertises 25 percent off the entire menu on Monday from 4 p.m. to close, which makes it a good night for the pricier fish dishes. For more Italian options, see our Italian restaurants in Denville guide.
