The Denville Police Department handled 3,265 calls for service in August, about 300 more than the 2,964 calls it logged in July, according to the monthly recap the department released Monday.
The report counts 1,145 motor vehicle encounters and 55 crashes across the township. Officers made 12 adult arrests, four of them for driving while intoxicated, and answered 70 alarm and 911 calls.
The rest of the numbers show how much of the job never reaches a courtroom. Denville officers logged 129 fire and medical assists, 14 mental health crisis or missing person calls, 36 animal control responses and 46 assists to other agencies. They completed 1,056 residential and commercial property checks, took part in 163 community policing events and handled 526 other police services. The department’s drone was deployed once.
The recap singled out one investigation from the month, the Aug. 18 traffic stop on East Main Street that ended in a third-degree eluding charge against Christopher Cox. Officers did not pursue the vehicle because they already had his license and knew his identity. The Detective Bureau located him the next day, and he was lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility pending an appearance in Morris County Superior Court.
With Denville schools back in session, the department closed the report with a reminder that drivers must stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing and its stop arm extended.
