The Denville Township Council is scheduled to hold public hearings and final votes on three ordinances at its regular meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2026, according to the township’s introduced and pending ordinances list. The measures cover residential fence rules and the handoff to a new business administrator.
Ordinance 22-26, introduced Oct. 6, updates scattered sections of the township’s land use and administrative codes based on a review by the township planner. The change most homeowners will notice involves fences. Front yard fences could stand up to 4 feet tall and be no more than 50 percent solid, while side and rear yard fences could reach 6 feet and be fully solid. We broke down the full list of proposed fence changes when the ordinance was introduced.
Ordinances 23-26 and 24-26, introduced Oct. 20, set up the transition as Business Administrator Steve Ward prepares to retire on Dec. 31, 2026. Ordinance 24-26 creates a temporary deputy business administrator post so Ward’s successor can work alongside him in December before taking over on Jan. 1, 2027. The ordinance says the post expires after Feb. 14, 2027, unless the council extends it.
Ordinance 23-26 updates the salary ordinance for township officers and employees not covered by a union contract. It sets a range of $115,500 to $231,000 for the business administrator and $5,000 to $10,000 for the deputy post. Ordinance 24-26 lists the deputy range as $5,500 to $11,000. Ordinance 23-26 notes that the ranges are limits, and the council sets exact pay by separate resolution.
The Oct. 20 meeting packet listed Nov. 24 as the adoption date for the two transition measures. The township’s ordinance list and the ordinance documents now posted show Nov. 10 instead. Our earlier story on Ward’s retirement after 17 years has more background.
Regular council meetings start at 7:30 p.m. The Nov. 10 agenda had not been posted as of Thursday morning. It will appear on the township’s council agendas and minutes page, along with audio of past meetings.
