Morris County Commissioner Race

One seat on the Morris County Board of County Commissioners is up this year. Democrat Chris Russo is ahead of Republican incumbent Commissioner Tayfun Selen in early unofficial returns.

Early Unofficial Returns

Chris Russo (D): about 25,000 (61%)

Tayfun Selen (R): about 16,000 (39%)

Approximate early totals. Percentages are each candidate’s share of the two-candidate early vote. Not final.

The race has not been called. Vote-by-mail ballots postmarked by Election Day and provisional ballots still have to be counted, and all results stay unofficial until the Morris County Clerk certifies them.

If Russo holds on, he would become the only Democrat on the seven-member board, leaving Republicans with a six-to-one majority.

Congress: New Jersey’s 11th District

Democrat Analilia Mejia has won a full two-year term representing New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District, which includes Denville. The Associated Press called the race for Mejia on Tuesday night.

Mejia defeated Republican Joe Hathaway in a rematch of April’s special election, which Mejia won to fill the seat left open when Mikie Sherrill became governor. Independent Alan Bond was also on the ballot.

U.S. Senate: Cory Booker Wins Reelection

U.S. Sen. Cory Booker won a third full term. The Associated Press called the race for the Democrat at 8:01 p.m., defeating Republican Justin Murphy. Read our full story on the Booker race here.
