Denville residents looking for a meaningful way to spend a Sunday afternoon can head to Morris Township on Nov. 15, when Veterans Valor dedicates The Gateway at The Healing Garden.
The ceremony runs from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2026, at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, 353 East Hanover Ave. Admission is free and no registration is needed.
Veterans and veteran groups are planning the day, but it is open to the whole community. Organizers say families, students and neighbors are all welcome, whether or not they served.
The Gateway is the first of seven planned gardens that together will make up The Healing Garden, a space for veterans and their families. Its stone walls display the seals of the six branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. Construction was handled by Bruin & Sons Landscape and Construction, which is also donating a Christmas tree to stand nearby. Denville Now covered the project’s groundbreaking in November 2025.
That tree will be the home of a new Honor a Veteran ornament program. Visitors can pick up an ornament for a $25 donation at the event, and it will be hung on the tree near The Gateway. Ornaments are not available online at this time.
Veterans Valor is a New Jersey 501(c)(3) nonprofit building The Healing Garden with the Morris County Park Commission, Rotary District 7475 and local veterans and health groups. More information is at veteransvalornj.com.
The dedication comes the same week Morris County honors local veterans, including Denville’s Raymond Jones, at its annual ceremony on Nov. 12.
