A soggy stretch settles over Denville and the rest of Morris County today, with the heaviest rain expected tonight before skies clear for a mostly sunny weekend, according to the National Weather Service forecast for our area.
Rain and patchy fog move in after 7 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, with a mild high near 70. South winds of 5 to 10 mph could gust as high as 25 mph. Daytime rain totals look light, under a tenth of an inch.
The steadier rain arrives Thursday night, when the forecast calls for a half inch to three quarters of an inch with a low around 60. Rain and fog continue Friday until about 4 p.m., adding another tenth to a quarter of an inch, with a high near 69. Taken together, the forecast points to roughly half an inch to an inch of rain from Thursday through Friday afternoon.
That timing matters for Friday’s Morris Knolls schedule. The girls soccer team plays its state quarterfinal at Tenafly at 2 p.m., while the rain is still in the forecast. The football team’s semifinal at Northern Highlands kicks off at 6:15 p.m., after the rain is expected to end. Friday night turns partly cloudy with a low around 49.
The weekend looks much better. Saturday, Nov. 7, is mostly sunny with a high near 64 and a 20 percent chance of a passing shower after 1 p.m. Sunday is mostly sunny with a high near 60.
Nights turn chilly as the new week starts. Lows drop to around 42 Saturday night, 38 Sunday night and 36 Monday night. Monday is sunny with a high near 58, and Tuesday warms a bit to a sunny 63.
