The Denville Volunteer Fire Department is marking 100 years of service to the township in 2026, and the all-volunteer department is using its centennial to ask more residents to join.

Founded in 1926, the department handles both fire protection and emergency medical care for Denville Township. It runs as three companies operating as a single department, each with its own fire apparatus and ambulance, and responds to roughly 1,200 fire and EMS calls a year, according to the department’s website.

In a message on its site, the department thanked residents for their support over the past century and said the anniversary honors its past and present members alike. The milestone year also brought a centennial edition of the department’s summer carnival at Fireman’s Field.

The department is now recruiting both volunteer firefighters and First Aid members, and it says all training is provided. Anyone interested can stop by the Main Street firehouse, Fire Co. 1 at 2 Indian Road across from the ACME shopping center, on Mondays after 7:30 p.m. and ask to speak with a chief.

Residents who cannot volunteer can still help. The department accepts donations through its website and says the money goes toward life-saving gear, equipment maintenance and training.

Its events page also lists the annual Fall Fire Prevention Open House and Halloween Celebration at the Main Street firehouse from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with candy, snacks, a costume contest with prizes and fire prevention demonstrations by members. The page currently shows two different dates for the open house, Oct. 26 and Oct. 31, so confirm with the department before heading over. For more ways to celebrate, see our guide to Halloween events in Denville.

Looking ahead, the department’s annual Santa Run, when Santa rides through Denville neighborhoods on a fire truck handing out treats, is set for Dec. 24, 2026, starting at 5 p.m. The street schedule will be posted closer to the date.

In an emergency, always call 911. The department’s non-emergency number is 973-627-0762.
