Denville Braces for Nor'easter Winds and Rain Through Sept. 27, 2026

Denville emergency officials are keeping watch on a nor’easter expected to bring gusty winds and rounds of rain to town through Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026.

In a Friday post that the Denville Township Police Department shared on its own page, the Denville Township Office of Emergency Management said it is monitoring the storm together with the police department, the Denville Volunteer Fire Department, the township and Denville Public Works. The office said it will keep residents posted on social media and through Nixle alerts as needed.

The National Weather Service forecast for Denville includes a wind advisory in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday. The weather service office in Mount Holly projected peak gusts of 40 to 45 mph around Morristown through Saturday night, and relaying that guidance, the OEM warned the winds could bring down trees and knock out power in spots. It will stay breezy into Sunday.

Rain will come in waves rather than all at once, with periods of showers lasting through Sunday. The weather service graphic shared by the OEM shows roughly 1.5 to 2 inches of rain possible around Morristown through Sunday night, though the OEM said no significant freshwater flooding is expected. Residents are still urged not to drive through flooded roads or park in low spots that tend to flood.

Two weekend events in town are going ahead anyway. The Denville Sunrise Rotary Club posted Friday that the Great Denville Duck Race at Gardner Field is on rain or shine Saturday, with the race set for noon. The sold out Pink Witches 5K also runs rain or shine, starting at 9 a.m. Sunday on Broadway in downtown Denville, according to the race registration page.
