A Hackettstown man who robbed the Bank of America branch on East Main Street in Denville this spring will spend 10 years in New Jersey State Prison, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office announced.
Jason H. Perlett, 65, was sentenced Friday, Nov. 6, by Superior Court Judge Ralph Amirata. He pleaded guilty on June 29 to one count of second-degree robbery. The sentence falls under the state’s No Early Release Act, so he must serve 85 percent of the term before he can be considered for parole.
The case goes back to the afternoon of Monday, March 23, when police got a call at about 3:58 p.m. about a robbery at the bank, 125 East Main Street. According to the prosecutor’s office, a man handed a teller a note demanding money and left with roughly $6,000. No weapon was shown. We reported on the arrest the day after the robbery.
The suspect drove away, but New Jersey State Police spotted the car on Route 10 in Roxbury. Roxbury officers and state troopers pulled it over around 5 p.m. and took Perlett, who was behind the wheel, into custody. Investigators recovered evidence and what they believe was cash from the robbery inside the vehicle. Perlett stayed at the Morris County Correctional Facility while his case moved through court.
Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll credited several agencies with the investigation, including the Denville Police Department, the Roxbury Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigations and K9 units, the Morristown Police Department, the FBI, the New Jersey State Police and the prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit.
