Denville residents have one more chance to paint a piece of the town’s newest public artwork. The Rotary Club of Denville will hold the last of four community tile painting sessions for its Unity Tree mosaic on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Community Room at Denville Town Hall, 1 Saint Mary’s Place.
The club is gifting the mosaic to the township in honor of America’s 250th anniversary. According to the club, the finished piece needs 400 hand painted tiles and will be installed in town for long-term public display. The Rotary has not yet announced where the mosaic will hang or when it will be unveiled.
Painters must be 13 or older. Younger children may come with a parent or guardian, but tiles are only assigned to those 13 and up. All supplies are provided and no art background is required. Walk-ins are welcome, and advance sign-up is available through the club’s registration page, where 20 of the 75 painter spots for Sept. 30 had been claimed as of Friday morning.
Each volunteer picks their own subject, whether that is a pet, a favorite place, a family name or an abstract design. The one rule is color: painters work from an assigned palette so every square blends into the larger tree image. The project follows the Unity Trees mural program from Mural Mosaic, which asks that at least 80 percent of each tile use the assigned colors.
Earlier sessions were held Aug. 25, Aug. 29 and Sept. 19. Photos the club shared from those nights show tiles featuring sunflowers, snowmen, pets, a Morris Knolls “MK” and one reading “250 Celebrating America in Denville.”
