Denville Township has published a detailed breakdown of what the Denville Senior Center offers, laying out the clubs, weekly activities, annual trips and free transportation available to residents 55 and older.
The center sits at Route 53 and Hall Road and runs three social clubs through the Denville Senior Association. The Women’s Club meets every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for games, bingo and socializing. The “Shoot the Breeze” Men’s Club meets Tuesdays from noon to 3 p.m. for pool, cards and shuffleboard. A coed club open to everyone meets the second and fourth Friday of each month from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and features guest speakers.
On days the clubs are not meeting, the center hosts Mexican Dominos on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Hand, Knee and Foot on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m., and Mahjong on Thursdays from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Bingo Night runs Friday evenings, with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. and games starting at 6 p.m.
The calendar also includes monthly bus trips, periodic casino outings, a multi-day vacation trip each September, an annual garage sale, the summer Senior Picnic and a Christmas holiday party.
Transportation is a significant piece of it. The township’s Dial-A-Ride program offers free curb-to-curb rides Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for fully ambulatory Denville residents 55 and older and residents 18 and older with disabilities. Rides cover medical appointments within eight miles, daily shopping trips in Denville, ShopRite in Rockaway on Thursdays, and Walmart, Target and Rockaway Mall on alternating Fridays. Aides are welcome to ride along.
Seniors 60 and older may also qualify for up to $40 in Morris County farmer’s market vouchers through the township’s social services office.
