On April 5, 2026, at approximately 3:05 p.m., Officers from the Denville Police Department responded to 276 East Main Street (CVS) for a reported shoplifting in progress. Upon arrival, Officers observed the suspects fleeing on foot.
Both individuals were quickly apprehended by responding officers. One of the suspects was identified as Alexander Velcu, and the second individual was identified as a juvenile.
A subsequent investigation determined that the suspects had stolen merchandise valued at over $3,000. After a brief investigation, both suspects were arrested and transported to Denville Police Headquarters for processing. Upon completion of processing, Velcu was charged and transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility.
The juvenile was released into the custody of an adult.
