Denville police have charged a 55-year-old East Hanover man with impersonating a public servant after a visit to police headquarters on Sunday, Sept. 20, according to the department.
Robert Jocher came to headquarters at about 9 a.m. to report a dead animal on private property, police said. While he was there, officers noticed he was wearing an East Hanover Fire Department badge.
Police said their investigation found that Jocher had falsely presented himself as a New Jersey State Police contractor and as an active member of the East Hanover Fire Department.
He was charged with impersonating a public servant under N.J.S.A. 2C:28-8a, issued a complaint summons and released. The case is scheduled for a future date in Denville Municipal Court.

Charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
