Denville police charged a 37-year-old Newark man with driving while intoxicated following an early morning traffic stop on Route 46 on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, the department said.
Officers stopped the vehicle at about 1:02 a.m. after watching it drift out of its lane while moving well below the flow of traffic, according to police.
The driver, identified as Anibal Sancheztorres, showed signs of impairment, police said. Officers ran field sobriety tests and then placed him under arrest.
Sancheztorres received motor vehicle summonses for operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain a lane and driving at a slow speed that blocked traffic. He was released and will appear at a later date in Denville Municipal Court.
The arrest follows two other October DWI cases from the department, which we covered in our earlier report. Residents who see a driver they believe is impaired should call 911. For the department’s non-emergency line, records and crash reports, see our Denville Police Department guide.
