Youth Sports in Denville NJ: Leagues, Ages and How to Sign Up

Denville kids have plenty of ways to play, from PAL basketball and flag football to ice hockey and rugby. Here is a guide to youth sports in Denville NJ, with who runs each program and where to find sign-ups.

Denville Recreation Department

The township’s Recreation Department runs sports and activity camps, classes, a ski and snowboard program and adult leagues, and it lists the town’s youth sports organizations on its recreation page. Township programs register through Community Pass. Recreation Director Nick Panetta can be reached at 973-625-8300, ext. 238.

Denville PAL

The Denville Police Athletic League runs seven programs, according to its program contact page:

  • Demons basketball
  • Blue Angels cheerleading
  • Striders cross country
  • Striders track and field
  • DenRock Diamonds field hockey
  • Blue Devils softball
  • Morris Knolls Jr. Eagles wrestling

The PAL’s main number is 973-627-7225. Basketball is in season now, with travel tryouts wrapping up this week and rec sign-ups for grades 1 through 8 opening in October. Details are in our PAL basketball tryouts story.

Football, hockey and soccer

  • Denville Blue Angels Football: flag and tackle football for grades K through 8. Flag is for kindergarten and first grade, tackle starts in second grade, and girls flag is offered for older grades.
  • Rockaway/Denville Eagles Ice Hockey: formed in 2022 when Denville PAL Hockey and Rockaway Township Hockey merged. The club is open to players ages 5 to 14 from Denville, Rockaway Township, Rockaway Borough and Wharton and plays in the Morris County Youth Hockey League. Its 2026-27 registration link is on the club site.
  • HUB Soccer: recreation and travel soccer serving Denville.

Baseball, softball, lacrosse and rugby

The township also lists Denville Youth Baseball, PAL Girls Softball, Renegades Lacrosse and the Denville Dawgs rugby program among its local youth sports groups. Registration windows vary by season, so check each site for current sign-up dates.
